PMI Introduces the Automated Filter Cartridge Tester

The PMI Automated Filter Cartridge Tester

The PMI Automated Filter Cartridge Tester provides fully automated through-pore analysis of entire filter cartridges of various geometries. Tests include bubble point, pore size distribution, mean pore size, gas, liquid, and Frazier permeability, and filter integrity. Sample chamber design permits use of cartridges having diameter and length over a wide range from several feet to several inches.

Principles of Operation:

A fully wetted filter cartridge is placed in the sample chamber and the chamber is sealed. Gas is then allowed to flow into the cartridge. When the pressure reaches a point that can overcome the capillary action of the fluid within the pore (largest pore), the bubble point has been found. After determination of the bubble point, the pressure is increased and the flow is measured until all pores are empty, and the filter cartridge is considered dry.

Applications:

PMI's Automated Filter Cartridge Tester is perfect for quality control and R&D environments. It is fast, accurate, and non-destructive. The Automated Filter Cartridge Tester has applications in any industry that utilizes filter cartridges.

Specific examples include:

For more information about applications please see our technical papers.

Features:

PMI Introduces the Cartridge & Media Porometer

Cartridge and Media Porometer

The Cartridge and Media Porometer will satisfy the demand of the industry for a pore structure characterization equipment for evaluation of filtration media and filtration cartridges.

Cartridge and Media Porometer

The instrument has multiple sample chambers. Samples cut from filtration media can be loaded in the chamber designed for it. Complete filter cartridges can also be loaded in appropriate chambers which can accommodate cartridges of variable length. Gas flow rate through dry test material is determined. The pores are filled with a wetting liquid and gas flow rate through the wet material is determined. These measured data are used to determine bubble point, mean flow pore diameter, pore distribution, and gas permeability of media sample as well as the entire cartridge. Hydrohead can also be determined. A special feature of the instrument permits liquid permeability of the media sample, and the complete cartridge, to be determined.

The instrument provides a wide range of test options. However, operator involvement is minimal because the instrument is fully automated; it contains a number of technological innovations, state-of-the-art components and sophisticated user friendly Windows based software.

The instrument is a cost-effective solution for the varying needs of a company. It is available for sale, rental or long-term lease.
